Pros

Discount - 30% is lovely. But they also have 4/5 student events throughout the year which offer 20% or 30% off. So not really much difference. Also, sometimes when you go to buy stuff with your discount, the manager will tell you no. They hate you getting uniform and discount and used to make it so difficult for me and my staff. So most of the time I didn't bother because all of them used to refuse and say "we're too busy". Staff were lovely because we were all new and in the same boat, so working with lovely people is definitely a pro!

Cons

Management - degrading, belittling, unhelpful. Sometimes they made me so upset I would cry. Lack of training - I used to get told off for not having knowledge of how to use the tills simply because no one taught me and I used to have the "If I get time or "I don't have time" card. Lack of respect - My train home was 4 hours (Studied at Uni of Nottingham and live in Swansea). I told them I could not work Christmas Eve because of trains I could not get home for Christmas Day. Their response? Get a hotel. They were unwilling to change my 4 hours on Christmas Eve last year so I had to leave. When I'd told them previously I knew I couldn't work it.

Pros

Employee Discount 30%, meeting new people every day. It's a simple job to do. You stay active through out your shift. You learn about current fashion and trading. The people there are nice and friendly, you also get a generous uniform allowance.

Cons

You spend the whole day on you're feet so if you get tired easily it's not for you. The pay is a bit low hence only good as a temp thing. Some customers can be a real pain but that's everywhere in retail. When the shopping season is down there's not much to do but when it's busy there's barely a place to step.

Pros

Some of the great perks of working at River Island are the uniform allowance and the staff discount. Every three months, depending on your hours, you were given a set allowance to spend on clothes to wear at work. My allowance was £70. With this I was to buy one pair of jeans and two shirts. The discount is also great at 25%.

Cons

Some of the cons are that the discount can only be used at the store you work at and not at other stores. The lack of breaks in shifts is also a con.
