Pros

Open Source Culture, Ability to help clients and ability to specialise in a particular SBR. Some free training (in your own time)

Cons

Where do I start? This is from the Brisbane Office. We were told we now need to work extra half hour a day even thou the contract signed (enterprise agreement?!) states unless you get paid over 80k you cannot work over 78.x hours. When confronted the management told us blatant lies. Red Hat then sent a specialist in to try and add some more lies, they then had a conference call with US specialist for more lies. At this point I've have handed in my resignation. Trust goes both ways. They eventually went back to the original enterprise bargaining and were not required to ask for the extra half hour work. The managers were amazingly thick skinned, after thy reverted the "rule" the line manager was promoted?! and replaced by some with no Open Source experience. I thought the Open Source Culture was worth the 10k pay cut from my previous job but I was wrong.

Pros

Fun/upbeat office environments, company events, encouragement for employees to collaborate and grow.

Cons

Work/life balance. Expectation to be "on call" 24/7, but not paid accordingly. When employees leave, management talks poorly of them. "Open" culture is praised, but only if you agree with upper management and "drink the Kool-Aid." Turnover is high, and they blame it on "not being a good culture fit."

Pros

Fast paced, friendly, cutting-edge technology, exceptional space for company growth, competitive pay and benefits, the ability to offer your technology customers valuable options.

Cons

Kludgy processes lead to a rudderless feel. Countless, mis-matched internal tools create a massive time suck. Internal policies are poorly communicated. Management promotions appear to be based on seniority and/or nepotism vs. qualifications. Managers are rewarded for instituting/perpetuating a status-quo culture- despite a company mission directly counter to such behavior. Too many 'what the heck does that job title mean' jobs being created, indicating mission creep/ turf growth...
