Pros

-Flexible in taking PTO whenever you like. -There are a lot of young engineers to form a nice social group.

Cons

-Ladder and ranking system to determine promotions and merit raises. Promotions and merit raises are determined in the previous year (ex: For 2009 year, ranking is determined Nov/Dec 2009) before performance reviews/summaries are written and conducted during (ex: For 2009, Feb 2010) for the previous year. Instead of making everyone's salaries the same, award the top performing employees better raises. -Expand educational assistance to allow engineers to obtain MBA degrees. They are the only top 4 aerospace defense contractor to restrict employees to obtain MBA degrees. -Not much flow down from section managers about job positions in other existing projects within the company in case your current project is ending and phasing out.

Pros

Nice work environment, good people, and surprisingly good lower/middle mgmt. in some areas. Its a nice place to work if you prefer to stay in the comfort zone and want a flexible 9-5 job.

Cons

Too much dead weight at top and bottom labor grades. Too many people at the middle experience level ( 5-10)leaving the company because of lack of opportunities. Also, the division has lost its technology focus and is slowly becoming an IT job shop.

Pros

There are many capable and well educated associates, with good experience in the products developed and manufactured at my location. There is good teamwork and cordiality at a working level. Management generally is supportive of good work, and gives commendations when important successful milestones are reached. There is opportunity for innovation at my location, and the company is generally supportive of patents that recognize innovation.

Cons

Most projects seem underbid in time and schedule, so there are pressures to work unpaid overtime. Management at the Santa Barbara site is remotely located in El Segundo, and comes from a different "culture" that is appearance oriented, where our site is results oriented. This remote management also is very demanding of procedural reports, which slow down the work that needs to be done.
