Pros

This is a great career move if you like learning about the real estate business but don’t want to be completely wrapped up in it; OR, that being said, if you are into real estate there are plenty of opportunities in that field also. The company has countless trains you can take and you really are able to determine your own career path here. I’ve found opportunities in operations, training, development, and countless other ventures in a short amount of time. This job is perfect for those who like to be kept on their toes and trusted with juggling tasks, and who are hungry to develop their professional skills. This job is not perfect for those who prefer micromanagement or cannot be accountable for the work they take on. Steer clear if you are not invested in the company cause or can’t “drink the kool aid”. Being committed to the big picture is absolutely essential in this role. This is not a short-term gig.

Cons

The hiring process was definitely wonky but I know a lot of it was growing pains. I am excited to see where the company goes over the next few years. On the note of growing pains, I feel like with the massive growth we’ve done that I’ve always felt one step behind in my workload. There’s definitely opportunities for overtime; with that being said it’s easy to feel burnt out. My recommendation: keep hiring good people so we can keep up with the workload and not have it fall on the shoulders of a few.

A Slump in Your Career

Pros

Air conditioning sometimes available (temp is set by building’s management company, not by anyone in the company office).

Cons

Culture is horrible, customer service is horrible (so you’ll likely get to be the fall guy for it even though National “leadership” admits in conference call that it’s horrible on all ends), daily meetings no matter what, ridiculously long hours, no real time off, childish cliques and backstabbing. No true advancement because people in charge only promote friends, even when those friends have zero experience or training in the actual work. Ex: one review states an escrow assistant at national company was hired to run REX’s new escrow company - that person then tells everyone on a conference call, “I was a Sr. Escrow Officer with $xxxxxxxx in business when I was hired.” An assistant is not the same as an escrow officer. One of these stories is not true, and it’s probably the newest “version of reality,” because that’s how this company likes to hire - inexperienced with lower compensation levels and much lower benefit expectations. Tech exists here but isn’t really utilized for modern expectations on any level, which is why customers get so mad. It definitely isn’t being used much in certain departments/company owned businesses, unless you think google docs is cutting edge tech, and unless you think using multiple software programs to complete one task is efficient for a “tech” company. There seems to be more focus on meeting investor requirements for funding rounds than there is on creating great tech itself, or great customer experience, or even creating a somewhat good culture for staff. Moving too fast to create “a thing,” to show investors “it’s created,” is entirely different than making a better product and/or service. Do you want to work in a place that puts stuff together too fast (their motto = “Fast, Fast, Fast!”), knowing it’s crap for everyone involved, and then tells you to undo all that crap and “make it right?”

Pros

- Fast growing company that gives employees opportunities for career growth and promotes often. - Laser-focused on providing exceptional customer service and what is the best for the consumer. This directly correlates with the company's social mission which is to provide homes for children who do not have one. By doing what is the best for the consumer, it creates wealth and long-lasting careers for employees; which ultimately provides for REX to do good for the world.

Cons

Start-up company moves extremely fast. If you are not highly comfortable with technology, this is not the company for you.
