Pros

Strong focus on people development – Clear commitment to learning and upskilling, with L&D recognised as a key enabler of business performance rather than a support function. Opportunity to influence strategy – As an L&D Manager, there is real scope to shape learning strategy, introduce new initiatives, and drive measurable impact across the organisation. Supportive leadership culture – Senior leaders are generally approachable and open to ideas, particularly when they align with improving customer outcomes and colleague capability. Variety and pace – The role offers a broad mix of operational delivery and strategic projects, keeping the work interesting and allowing you to build a wide skillset. Customer-centric environment – Strong emphasis on delivering great service, which creates meaningful purpose behind training interventions and development programmes. Collaboration across teams – Good cross-functional working, particularly with operations, HR, and quality teams, which helps embed learning into day-to-day performance. Scope for innovation – Encouragement to trial new learning methods, digital tools, and blended approaches to improve engagement and effectiveness. Visible impact – L&D outcomes are closely linked to key business metrics, so you can clearly see the difference your work makes. Good exposure to leadership development – Opportunities to work on leadership capability frameworks, coaching programmes, and succession planning initiatives. Positive team culture – L&D teams tend to be supportive, collaborative, and focused on continuous improvement. Canteen is pretty good and the people are also lovely!

Cons

Pace and workload can be demanding – The business operates in a fast-paced environment, which can lead to competing priorities and limited time to embed learning initiatives fully. Change can feel reactive – At times, priorities shift quickly in response to operational pressures, which can impact long-term L&D planning and consistency. Resource constraints – Like many organisations, there can be limitations on budget and headcount, meaning L&D teams need to be creative and prioritise carefully.

Pros

Takes a while to adapt to the speed at which the organisation works, I guess it makes sense with having to be always-on for our members - but I must say it does make it exciting, especially compared to my past roles where you feel you’d get nowhere with trying to implement new things or trying something different. Here, it’s not only embraced but pushed and I’ve personally felt backed by exec on larger projects that, in other places, they wouldn’t even hear about as it wouldn’t make it past my own line manager. The people are so supportive and friendly, everyone I’ve come into contact with, worked with or presented to have genuinely been great and I feel everyone really does have the same goal. It makes my job a lot smoother and I feel stable here. I’m really enjoying my time here - it’s not easy, but I do feel like there was no smoke and mirrors in regards to that anyway so I knew what I was getting myself in for!

Cons

I’m close to a lot of the initiatives that happen across the business that affect both members and colleagues so I have a good understanding of why the business makes certain decisions and the benefits. I do think this should be further communicated though as I know I have colleagues who feel quite distant and then have a warped view on what’s happening.

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review, it’s great to hear you’re enjoying your time with us. We’re glad you’ve felt supported in a fast-paced environment and had the opportunity to try new ideas, with backing from leadership on bigger projects. It’s also fantastic to hear such positive feedback about our people and collaborative culture. We really appreciate your point on communication too. Ensuring everyone feels connected to the bigger picture is important, and we’ll continue working to improve this.

Pros

I worked with some lovely people at the RAC, if you manage to stay and pass probation, you gain some respect and make friends. Basic salary is not too bad. There’s structure and the training is good.

Cons

Bonus is capped and it’s extremely hard/almost impossible to earn maximum bonus. Although close colleagues can be friendly, it’s not a great environment. Always someone in tears. Always being made to feel that you’re failing despite working with software that is very out of date and processes that are frustrating. You’ll get hero shoutouts (certificates) for achievements which are soon forgotten and you’re blamed for company failings shortly afterwards. Good people aren’t valued. There doesn’t seem to be a complaints department so frustrated customers just keep getting sent round in circles ruining sales conversion! Shifts are different each day and designed to benefit the company. They don’t consider the impact on the employee.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re really pleased to hear that you built strong relationships during your time here and found the training and structure helpful -that’s important to us. We’re sorry to hear about your experience in other areas. Creating a positive, supportive environment where people feel valued and set up to succeed is something we care deeply about, and it’s disappointing to hear your experience. Your comments around targets, recognition, systems, and shift patterns are all taken seriously, and we know how important it is that these feel fair, achievable, and consistent so we'll be taking this away to look at with the relevant teams. We’re continually reviewing how we support our colleagues, from the tools and processes we use, to how performance is recognised and how feedback is actioned -and insights like yours help highlight where we need to improve. Thank you again for your honesty, and we wish you all the best in your next role.
