Pros

Better than most dead end jobs. If you get a supervisor to like you, you can move up if you can serve your time long enough. Pay is okay. I have been a stock clerk for a year with above average reviews and I make 11.75 per hour.

Cons

No regard for work life balance. Lied to about schedule when started. Keep you at store until all hours of the night without asking when working a closing shift. Schedule changes every week for no reason. You literally have to do the work of two men if you want to leave at your scheduled time.

Pros

Publix has a terrific retirement program among other benefits and offers ample vacation time to store managers. Even down to young front-service clerks, free stock and tuition reimbursement are available. Quarterly bonuses are a regular cash-flow for all employees who work 1000 hrs per year. Health insurance for employees working 30+hrs/wk. Friendly work environment and great upper-management, company is going in the right direction.

Cons

It takes many years to work up to the store manager level, often requiring years of service as a cashier, then office staff, then team leader, then assistant dept, then dept, then assistant store, finally store. But the compensation amounts for each are relatively strong, without requiring a degree.

Pros

You can get Publix subs or chicken tenders every day if you so choose.

Cons

At my location, managers played favorites. They will schedule people 38 hours just to avoid providing full-time benefits (although, this isn't an uncommon practice at any non-career job in Florida). They would try to make you feel bad if you called out for any reason (including being sick). Management stands around and doesn't do anything unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. They tend to be hypocrites in any number of areas. Lots of other stuff.
