Pros

Compared to other grocery retailers (I have worked for 3 and know others that worked for competitors I haven't worked for), publix has a far better system in place. Dairy and Frozen food use CGO ordering (pros and cons), the work load is less since there is more help available. The managers I worked for always understood when something didn't go as planned. Benefits were good, Publix still gives Christmas bonuses, stock incentives and a quarterly bonus to EVERY employee in a store that meets budget.

Cons

The only drawback to me was the time contraints on promotions. I understand why publix does this, but it is very difficult coming into the organization as a stocker after having 15 years experience managing other chains. On average even with experience I saw associates becoming assistant grocery managers in 2-3 years and grocery managers in 5 years or the same as another exceptional associate.

Pros

I worked for Publix while putting myself through college and grad school. My managers were always very accommodating to my schedule needs. I was also in the military during part of my time at Publix, and was afforded every opportunity when I returned from duty. The pay is not tops, but the benefits more than make up for it.

Cons

As I said, I put myself through college while working at Publix. Unfortunately, my college education came at the sacrifice of my career at Publix. The company values commiment to the company over education. You will find very few managers with 4-year degrees, and only a handful with graduate degrees. To that end, now that I have completed an MBA, I find it very hard to sell my superiors on the value of my education. All operational management positions, and most corporate/support positions are filled by those who chose Publix exclusively.

Pros

good benefits for full time associates, flexible scheduling, requested vacation time promptness, good training, active team work, good co workers.

Cons

No benefits for part time associates unless you work 1500 hours which means you would have to work 35 hours a week to make and since you don't get priorety over hours, it never happens. Full time associates are owned if you are rude to customers and lazy, you'll get a raise. Customers are extra whiny to managers all the time. It gets annoying
