Pros

As a big company, it provides many resources such as training and library access to many books. It is a leader in certain medical fields.

Cons

There are too many older employees who have been working for the company for over 20 years or even more. This is actually not good for a company because new comer's opinion is often not heard by the management team and new ideas and fresh thoughts are suppressed by those older employees because they never heard about it. They are usually afraid of any changes in the existing technologies because they worry about not knowing the new stuffs. Those older employees are obstacles to innovation and they can go nowhere if they get laid off. So for innovative young people, it is not a good place to work. Also the company's culture is very bureaucratic and there are too many politics.

Pros

Philips Resuscitation (Heartstream, originally) are a group of some of the finest research and clinically minded developers with whom I have worked. Strong benefits and good compensation package.

Cons

As part of Philips global companies, and by the inclination of a number of managers project and business management is aggressively and uselessly competitive, to the detriment of products and schedules. Decisions are arbitrary and often focused on sabotage of competitive projects, or cover-up of poor decision making. Good people are RIFed to cover bad managers, with the explicit support of HR.

Pros

My peers were good engineers who cared about their work. Flexible working hours, depending on who your manager is. On par wage with other companies in the industry.

Cons

Endless meetings that don't allow for any real work to get done. You are pegged into an org chart position with little ability to grow. Designs lacked creativity and innovation was stifled in fear of an FDA review. Unrealistic project schedules were driven by management with no input from the engineers.
