Pros

Is a mining company through and through. I learnt a lot about fiscal management and accountability.

Cons

Peabody is a tough company to work for and have high expectations for their teams that can be difficult to meet. There is a high turn over of their Supervisors, Superintendents and Managers. Tier 2 mining company in Australia and as a result can struggle to attract talent.

Pros

Great pay Paid time off Ability to advance if you apply yourself

Cons

Very few understand the importance of field technology and big data. As much as I do enjoy mining, the deck is stacked against it; any competitive edge that can be gained from leveraging field data and translating that into efficiency seeems largely overlooked due to initial cost. There seems to also be very cliquish attitudes within the mines. Qualifications, attitude, and proven performance dont necessarily translate into a leadership role should one come open. Higher management also rarely comes out to the mine sites. This really gives employees the impression that we, a mining company, are not being led by people deeply involved in the culture.

Thank you for your feedback. We agree that embracing technology is an important component of being an industry leader, and we also agree that personal conversations are the best approach to company communications. As a result, Peabody is committed to advance and invest in technology to drive operations excellence. A number of site programs are underway in the areas of data analytics, autonomous equipment, drone and mobile technologies. Leadership continues to work with sites to identify priorities based on business value, and we are continuously improving our processes for both listening to and sharing information with our employees.
