      Pros

      Great business... PayPal is the next Visa. It has been growing pretty quickly and will soon out pace ebay in revenues.

      Cons

      Long development cycles. No processes. Biggest downside is slow promotion cycles. People are not promoted only based on merit but also based on the years they have been with PayPal. For example if you had two great years in a row, it will not help you even if you are promoted.

      Pros

      It has a great business model, with a massive customer base, and by all accounts, it should grow into an absolutely enormous company (if it isn't already). There are no real competitors to speak of, and the area to grow into is enormous.

      Cons

      As a software engineer, this place has gotten too big for me, and the technology hasn't scaled at all. There's constantly a desperate attempt to manage resources and to make sure no one breaks the site in any way (which is understandable) which means there's way too much process and overhead and not enough time to actually write some code and see how it works. Too many people have conflicting priorities.

      Pros

      Good work/life balance, good opportunities for latteral moves. There is good cooperation between groups in different locations. The management is usually pretty good about giving feedback when asked for it. The management is usually pretty good about helping deal with members of other groups when needed. Management encourages a good work/life balance.

      Cons

      Work is not always as challenging as it could be. Other groups are not always as cooperative as you might want. Sometimes it can be not always easy to get in touch with the different people in the remote locations when you need to because of the time differences.
