Pros

The building is nice and the creative people I worked around were hilarious and fun. Stellar work / life balance. Managers and HR were extremely nice when letting me go. They gave me an amazing severance pay that I didn't expect. Paid for high-quality Scrum training for all employees in order to shift the company into an Agile Development culture.

Cons

The company is growing at a snail's pace. The business is more interested in making money than making a product that people love. No product vision, culture or core values of any kind. Senior management doesn't seem to care for the vision of the product. Seems like the company is rushing into a new entertainment paradigm with little thought into a high-quality product; spread across too many platforms too quickly. Being under the umbrella of the parent CBS Corporation makes it easy for people to have excuses for lack of change. Their product roadmap is planned out way too far in advance and not interested in changing it.

Thanks for the review. It is great to hear that while working with us you were able to partner with creative and great people and take advantage of some of the learning and training opportunities. I am sorry to hear that you didn’t think the product and company vision were well thought through. While working under the CBS Corporation umbrella can sometimes cause hardships, it also supplies us with a stable and well-funded environment that allows us to take risks and branch out into new digital media channels. In regards to growth, although it may not be evident in all employee’s day-to-day operations, we are growing and expanding in all aspects of our business and we don’t anticipate slowing down anytime soon. We do appreciate your note regarding the product design and roadmap. User experience is a key priority for us and we take your feedback seriously.

Pros

+ Young and seasoned employees all within the company + Established brand / corporate so it keeps afloat (vs. the risky but exciting startup life) + Granted all is team based, you can work autonomously from time to time

Cons

- Silo'd departments, each had its own tribe, group etc. (solution is to mingle really) - Pay was below average, this in conjunction to industry pay, average income and living cost (e.g. SF)

Pros

Lower level coworks are very nice. Occational free food.

Cons

The culture at Viacom is pretty horrible. Management is just out to make sure they keep their own job. Thus, people are very territorial and hard to work across departments. The industry in general is having a tough time but Viacom isn’t helping itself by pushing away the best talent.
