Pros

The cafeteria? No wait, maybe the little card with your picture on it and all the logos for the various Viacom subsidiaries. For some reason people still seem to think the name has cache (but even that is vanishing). I think you get to keep the card when you leave.

Cons

Managerial incompetence, lack of focus, lack of communication between divisions, poor salary, poor medical plan. While there have been rumblings at MTV of "change" and "new directions", the results have been mixed. Management often lacks experience in the fields related to their projects, and rely on others to feed them the knowledge they don't have.

Pros

It is a hip, fast paced environment that is truly run by the inmates. Employees are king and while management is doing its best to run the company into the ground people still love working there. The work life balance is great there and they really take into account that we are all people. The perks are also great - free access to all the shows and tvs in the offices. They work hard to make people glad to work there and at least until recent times the morale was fantastic as a result. I think it is still a great place to work but needs some help.

Cons

Like I said, I think that the senior folks have been there too long and need to turn over...the company could do much more with what it has and with the employee dedication to the success. They are not great communicators and the digital areas are a great example - when I worked there there were multiple digital strategies and people working, sometimes at cross purposes. Getting everyone on the same page would help but in protecting the individual brands the management doesn't want any kind of centralized control. MTVN operates like multiple separate businesses versus one company, which makes any centralized roles challenging.

Pros

I worked in publishing. Top management doesn't care about that. But if you work in another division, that might be good. I think that the people at some of the other divisions had a far better experience than I did. Great cafeteria. The cafeteria is one of the best in NYC.

Cons

Company is too big. Management has no understanding of what parts of the company do. Parts of the company are starved of resources. If you work there, there's no opportunity for advancement, and the focus is on cutting costs.
