Friendly but frustrating.

Pros

Friendly working environment and co-workers, good quality of life. Not a lot of sustained long hours, and a somewhat low stress environment most of the time.

Cons

Frustrating bureaucratic structure and lack of communication and understanding between different departments makes it hard to solve problems or get things done.

Pros

The atmosphere at MTV is laid-back and depending on which department or group you work for, the hours can be very flexible. One great thing about the company is the encouragement of a work/life balance. The company also contributes back to the community by offering a company-wide volunteer day. Human Resources provides opportunity to have health screenings, blood drives, and employee movie screenings. The people at MTV are very chill and easy going. As far as work goes, in my current position, I had exposure to many different departments and business verticals. The company is enormous and it is very interesting to see how everything ties together, from the production of a show to the international distribution of rights.

Cons

A major downside is the low compensation and the 10% bonus is only met if the company has made a profit. However, the hours are flexible and there is flex friday in the summer. Which means that you can get every other friday off or off early.

Pros

At least it is new media, and you will work your butt off. They are willing to try almost anything to make a buck.

Cons

That said they wont but up the resources to make many good ideas really work, senior management terrified of Redstone, and the only real concern is what to do about the stock price. Compensation is terrible, benefits not too good either.
