Pros

I can only speak for the Global Digital Media Group, which works cross-channel for all of MTV Networks, but the best thing is the lack of egos among upper management (I hear things are different within specific channels). Management are very good to employees. There is a relaxed atmosphere where everyone feels they can be themselves and have a voice.

Cons

Bureaucracy, bureaucracy, bureaucracy. It's a big company, what can you do? The flagship brand is suffering due to the loss of it's original image as an innovator. Fear of taking risks -- conservatism. Did I mention bureaucracy?

Pros

I get the opportunity to use writing and analytical skills together. It's a laid-back atmosphere that values teamwork and I've never been berated, yelled at, or mistreated. Management encourages career growth and initiative, although taking initiative can sometimes be intimidating. For staff, the benefits are good and feel well-thought out. When the company holiday extravaganza was cancelled, staff got two extra vacation days to use during the holidays, which was thoughtful.

Cons

It's a big corporation that can sometimes feel faceless. There's a large difference in treatment between long-term freelance and staff positions, in terms of benefits and a general feeling of fairness (if someone's been there eight years, they aren't really freelance). Because turnover in the industry is so high, it can feel as though the only way to advance is to switch networks, which is too bad-- I like it at MTVN.

The atmosphere is very casual.

Cons

Low pay, takes forever to get a promotion, company is way too top heavy, and there are "huge" yearly lay-offs; constantly!!!
