The best paying bookies of them all

Pros

The pay is higher than other bookmakers, with an attractive £12.50 an hour for single scheduling...even though I'm not a fan of single scheduling.. Banter - the company is quite quirky and informally formal (if that makes sense) nothing feels ridiculously serious and boring like most retail jobs.

Cons

The staffing! Sometimes you'll check your rota to find out that your shifts have been changed at the last minute - or a day you had previously marked as 'off' has magically been changed to a shift that you weren't asked about! But if you put your foot down from the start, then this won't happen as frequently. Long shifts. From open to close - sometimes back to back - which you're not obligated to do by law.. but if you don't specify anything, don't be surprised if you see you've been put in for three long shifts in a row. The customers. My god. Asking for I.D can have you ending up calling the police, trying to keep barred people out is a nightmare, and some customers are just downright rude!!! There are a lot of nice ones, but the bad ones can really mess up your mood for the entire day. This is a character building job, in any bookmakers, as the shop mood can go from jolly to hostile in seconds. All it takes is one person to start losing money on a machine before everything gets smashed all over the place and you've got to sort it out Although...this doesn't happen alllll the time. I have worked in far worse places I can tell you that much. If you're thick skinned, you'll be fine.

Pros

Excellent technical challenge. Keeps striving for getting better and doing more technically challenging work. Great people to work with.

Cons

With constantly changing higher management sometimes focus gets shifted from technology and products and gets to making money often by cost cuts. So job stability is not great.
