      Pros

      On some occasions there were Christmas/Summer parties arranged (but not always), and the company covered all expenses at these events.

      Cons

      The company expect your whole world to revolve around them. Not only are you expected to work very unsociable hours, you're also expected to be available to work unpaid overtime on request.

      The actual software development group is run really well and they do things properly: specs, source control, documentation, unit testing.

      Cons

      I was working in a smaller group that wrote its own internal apps. The group was amateurish beyond belief. No proper specs. No source control - we had to email code to each other. No bug tracking. No testing. Just get it written ASAP and wait in dread for it to fall over. Very limited internet access too, so it was very difficult to look up solutions to problems online. Meetings with my boss sometimes featured him shouting and swearing. He didn't know the first thing about managing software projects.
