Pros

I loved my time in Paddy Power. If I was writing this review 8 months ago I'd say it's the best place I've ever worked. Fantastic people, autonomy and real progression paths mapped out for dedicated employees keen to progress. Alas, that has all changed with the merger with Betfair. The company I previously admired so much no longer exists! See cons!

Cons

The atmosphere resembles a funeral home. People walking on egg shells fearing for their job. A lot of really good people were let go in the merger, a merger that saw a lot of eyebrows raised with some questionable appointments. A kick back from these appointments has led to a large number of talented people who managed to keep their roles in the merger begin to explore other opportunities. Favouritism towards Betfair staff is undeniable as the management structure is now predominantly Betfair. I'd be avoiding at all costs at this stage.

Pros

Fun Entertaining Surroundings. Not your traditional stressful call center.

Cons

No room for growth. Dubious business practices. Management divides more than it unites it's teams. Leadership is very poor, unreliable and shaky. Be prepared for there to always be a problem with your paycheck. There is no uniformity in management and even less with the staff.

Pros

- They got hiring (mostly) right: Still the smartest, friendliest, funnest people I've ever encountered in my career - Majority of people were extremely approachable: You could send an email to anyone, anywhere in the business and get a resounding yes to a coffee just to ask them what they did - Interesting work and problems: It's a product with a LOT of very engaged, regular users - Lot of investment in training - Good social stuff: Definitely the best craic of any company I worked in

Cons

- The above pros have been decimated since the merger *cough* takeover - when I talk about the things I miss, they're not there any more - Long history of 'jobs for the boys' - people getting promoted to newly created job titles/roles which were never advertised internally or externally - Very top-down and hierarchical - the proof of this is the continued success and promotion of Yes Men... total compliance is rewarded and hence encouraged in senior management - Terrible communication - department-by-department trickling of info fuels a very active rumour mill - Non-stop shake ups and re-orgs
