Once upon a time there was a great company

Pros

The possibility of getting a package at the same time you get a new job

Cons

Before the merger the moral at the company was pretty much at zero, then the merger happened and it’s a super power struggle between legacy companies, VPs are surrounding themselves with all there legacy buddies regardless of there abilities and if your not part of that inner circle you have zero involvement or get any communication. Senior management changes have now induced another round of chaos in an already leaderless and communication-less black hole, a recent merger of two product divisions and VP’s went to Florida so the announcement of major employee changes was communicated poorly on the company web page, no division VP call to discuss the changes or what’s next, no dates on the announcements as to when they start or what the transition timing is, senior leadership at this company is the worst you can possibly imagine or they just don’t care about anyone they manage. It will take years for the dust to settle before there is any culture in this mess. Once the merger cash from divestment dries up this company with no vision will be like the titanic with no rudder in a typhoon, join if you dare but be prepared to bring your own life jacket as cost cutting measures are so deep you have to bring your own water and coffee to work... did I mention the VP’s are in Florida... you get the picture.

Battle of the clashing cultures

Pros

Nutrien is the result of a merger between Agrium and PotashCorp. These two companies had distinctly different cultures. And like most acquisitions, the process was painful. The issues stem from clashing cultures, values and behaviours. If you’re interested in working here, there are also different cultures among the different business units. Corporate is where you’ll find the painful touch points. Here’s where the real battle between the clashing cultures of the predecessor companies is waging. While retail is distinctly different and where you’ll find the bulk of the happy campers.

Cons

Morale in many parts of Nutrien are low. There’s more change to come and people are fatigued by the change. Unfortunately, the executive leadership team isn’t particularly experienced and that doesn’t help. And, to boot, there’s a safety issue in the plants and mines which will likely continue to be problematic as the Nutrien leadership is directive in nature and directive styles aren’t conducive to empowering people to think and act safely. Nutrien is still in flux. Change continues at a daunting pace and the instability is going to cost the company in the long run. If you really need a job, you shouldn’t say no to working here. But, if you have options, you’d be better off going elsewhere. The stress, constant change and low morale will eventually takes its toll and you’ll be desperate to get out. Much of the corporate team is looking for work elsewhere. More simply said, if you’re a yes man and can take orders without worrying about issues, risks, gaps, etc, you’ll be ok here. If you’re looking for work where you’ll be empowered and make meaningful contributions, this isn’t the place.
