Toxic & Negative Environment

Pros

Front-line and below manager level employees. Most of the good to great employees and leaders are gone.

Cons

Doing what is Political and not doing the Right things. is the motto. Play the games, keep your month shut, do not talk to others outside your group, do not cause waves and maybe you will survive. Words from my VP boss, except left out the cuss words.

Post-Merger Chaos and the Ruin of 2 Good Companies

Pros

Good people at the site levels. Safety is given an emphasis. Benefits were good.

Cons

More work is being shoved to site level, yet Corporate seems to be bloated with people. With merger, there is chaos. The focus is achieving the $500 million merger savings promised to the stockholders. Seems as if people have been put into key positions that have no clue what they are supposed to do so the rest of us have to pitch in and do their job to keep things going. Many good people have been let go or like me choose to leave. Others are so busy trying to check off their merger "to do list" as soon as possible that important changes are poorly communicated. Instead of really taking the time to determine what was good about each legacy company and using it to make a great company, the Agrium practices are being adopted without any assessment. Pay raises were 3 months late and the lowest in my 20 year career. The timing was impeccable - a new office building in Saskatoon and the intent to buy the Calgary office building were announced at the same time people found out they were getting crappy raises.

Nutrien, overrun by big egos!

Pros

If you like to travel and being away from your family, this is your place.

Cons

Leadership, specifically in IT, is chaotic. Projects are delayed, costs are running high and instead of looking at who is in charge of making the big decisions, the blame is running downhill. Yes, there was a merger, but, at what point do we stop using that as an excuse for all that is wrong? At what point is the leader questioned about their decisions? The stress levels on most IT projects are incredibly high with top down demands of do as I say, not as I do. Our leader has aged 10 years in the last year, we can all see the stress he is under but, this is due to his decisions and his alone. The culture is terrible. Although, you do see some middle managers trying to engage and protect their teams from the ego from above. They can only do so much. Stamping your face on a blog or a townhall type call is not leadership, it's narcissism. Be a leader, take action, get the consultants under control, better yet, get rid of them and train and promote from within. I think that promise from a couple of years ago was forgotten. Long standing employees in leadership positions were packaged out with the merger and replaced by hiring previous consultants. It doesn't take a lot of fact finding to see that the top dog hired his loyal followers. If you are looking for a position where you are valued for your commitment, growth mindset and effort, keep looking!

We’re disappointed to hear that your experience with us has not been good since the merger. As a global company with over 20,000 employees, we recognize there are likely issues that are not a direct result of the combination of organizations. Merger aside, our focus is on building a culture and employee experience that is consistent and positive, regardless of location or department. At Nutrien, our senior leaders are encouraged to engage with their staff. This means working directly with employees, answering Q&As and hosting departmental town halls. The goal is to facilitate a two-way dialogue with employees, and to keep information channels open. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review, your feedback is important.
