Pros

Having Northrop Grumman on my resume as my first job out of college is essentially the ticket to job security in any software field I go into. The well-respected company name is great and recognized by pretty much everyone. Even if you choose to stay at the company, you pretty much have a job here for life. The company is never running out of government contracts and projects, and it feels like we're constantly hiring.

Cons

The pay is average. If you're in CS, then the pay is actually under market standard. The pay increases per year are small - anywhere from 2-3%. Management makes a lot of excuses for why it's taking you so many years to go up to the next level, even though you meet all the requirements. People are constantly leaving my project for this reason (low salary). They just come work here for the experience for 2-3 years and then leave. The management actually doesn't mind this because it means that they can keep project costs low by always hiring new grads who are ready to take the low salary. But it definitely means that the projects go at a slow pace because we are constantly training new hires.

Pros

Prestigious company to work at, 401K.

Cons

Low salary, unchallenging work, lying colleagues, South Asian/Indian management that does not include outsiders. Overall a depressing place to work.

Pros

Co-workers are nice, mostly men. Most often you will be the only woman of the team. If your job is project based (most jobs are), some co-workers will be insecure and try to withhold information so they will look good in front of management. Management are mostly men. They tend to think women are inferior technically. The women managers are even worse. They are insecure about their jobs and will push you down.

Cons

Women are not treated equally. Most managers cannot do programming so they chose to be managers. They won't be able to understand if you are facing a software problem and tend to blame the problems on you. The managers that are good technically tend to stay on the same project for a long time and forget how it feels to be on a new project. They expect you to understand everything despite the lack of documentation, or documentation not updated, etc... No promotion unless you apply for a new project which you will be a new person on the team. Work life balance is none. They expect you to come in on weekends and work late when needed with no extra pay.
