Pros

Flat out...the people. Nielsen is not only home to brilliant data scientists, but it also has a rich history of fostering an inclusive and collaborative culture across the entire organization. So, you are not only working with bright talent but your coworkers are also kind.

Cons

Unfortunately, the company's "strong pivot" and the current equity firm owner's approach to decimating the talent pool across all divisions has significantly altered Nielsen's ability to service its clients and has negatively impacted the company's culture. We are talking about award winning performers that have been with Nielsen for years. So, if you're looking for great company culture, sadly Nielsen is no longer one of them. And I don't anticipate that changing until the hedge fund owners move on. Plus, if you're one of the last ones in, you can expect to be the first ones out...and I hear they changed the severance policy to one week for each year of employment. On the flip side, I would highly recommend hiring anyone hit by the last 4 layoff rounds (there have been 4 in less than 15 months!)

Sadly, a sinking ship.

Pros

- Nielsenites are smart, hard-working and resourceful. - It's awesome to work with teams across the globe. On any given day, I am on calls with people from 3-4 different continents. - The company work schedule is very flexible and fully remote. - You are surrounded by tons of cool insights and important data everyday.

Cons

- A Private Equity company purchased Nielsen in late 2022 and since then major cost-cutting initiatives have ensued - a massive reorg, layoffs, office closures, depreciation of key company communication tools, spending bans, hiring freezes, etc. - Everyone is now expected to do more with smaller teams, fewer tools or resources and expanded scopes (Nielsen loves a dry promotion). - Commercial teams at Nielsen stifle much innovation in favor of demanding product enhancements for quick sales vs long-term product success. - Product managers are sadly project managers at best. This is because there is hardly any scrum master or program management support for technology teams. - Pay is below the national average. - Unless you started at the company in an entry level role, it's difficult to onboard because there is zero training. - There are no standards for product managers. Each person's role and responsibilities are different based on the product or part of the org you're in. - Reporting lines and structures are really weird and inconsistent.

Pros

Great co-workers. Everyone I worked with has now gone. Work from home Interesting projects

Cons

Too many re-orgs. Company has no direction, seems to want to sell off bit by bit. Favoritism of certain employees. Manager who ignored me (was in a different office) To quick to play the blame game
