Big platform, little pay

Pros

The company seems like a great place to work from the outside. It’s a very big commercial real estate platform with strong brand recognition and excellent cross-selling potential. Also potential for upward mobility but most non-production employees aren’t paid appropriately for the level of work they do.

Cons

Very shady with pay. People are often promoted mid-year without a bump in salary. The whole company has to wait until mid-March to learn about salary and bonuses, and they are often quite disappointing. The CEO has to personally approve everyone’s salary increases, which are usually based on past years’ salary, not the job the employee is actually doing. Also, one third of each bonus comes in restricted stock, which takes 3 years to vest.

Not a great company overall

Pros

Can be fun to be part of building something with the massive growth tear the company has been on. Work life balance in my office was good but varies. Entrepreneurial culture that doesn’t usually stand in your way and allows you a good deal of autonomy. Less corporate feel than competitors.

Cons

Number 1 problem is that the corporate leadership ranges from awful to nonexistent depending on the way the wind blows. Very backward and things you take for granted at JLL/CBRE they don’t have here. No 401k match. No corporate cards for staff or brokers. “Everything is difficult here” - is the number one quote from any newish broker or staff. most still have desktop computers, won’t give you a headset, using old clunky monitor...the list goes on. Very little to no guidance has been offered on how all of the mergers/acquisitions. For staff, no raises (2% if you’re lucky) and minuscule bonuses mostly in the form of equity in a company who’s stock is not performing well.
