Pros

Stable culture Fairly predictable business performance Well-defined job responsibilities Low expectations of employees-- management takes a very strong role and is not looking for much input; if you want to do your job and go home this is a good place.

Cons

Management is not interested in the market and how the world is changing. Committed to Agent business model and no interest in seeing other opportunities. Captive to the field force-- management is scared of them.

Good benefits and fair amount of vacation days.

Cons

No career path. Waste of talent. No recognition. Middle level managers get offended when employees want to grow. Promotions and assignments go to socially popular, not to those who work hard. They don't care what you know and how hard you work. It all depends on "who" you know. If you manager likes you, then you're set fo life. Certain areas work enormous amount of unpaid overtime.

A good entrepreneurial environment, where a good idea has the potential to be leveraged into a lot of money. Excellent Training program with dedicated trainers to develop both agents and registered representatives. They pay for all training, and licensing fees.

Cons

Hard to trust the numbers management gives you. They will hire anyone, regardless of professional ability or resume quality. They sell smart people the idea of a dream job, with high commissions and high lifestyle quality. Reality is the job is all about sweat labor, hard work, income volatility...... and then you understand that the best thing New York Life is for leap frogging into better job! New York Life = Selling Life Insurance (they have the best products in the industry though)
