Pros

It's a mentally easy job. The people that work for next at a lower level are by and large a lovely bunch

Cons

Low pay Treated like your an idiot because it's retail Lack of respect for staff Managers do not know how to mange The amount of work expected for the pay is simply disgraceful Mangers are give target for you to work 50 units of stock and hour but tell you off if you do hit 70+ units Being forced to work all sales and Boxing Day. The firm has no consideration for working families

Pros

- Online portal to see your shifts and get overtime - Pay slightly more than the minimum wage for under 21s - Most staff are friendly - Good uniform allowance if you like Next clothes (the sizes didn't fit me very well though so I didn't really benefit)

Cons

- Some managers are rude to the sales consultants and staff who have worked there a long time bully new employees over uniform or nit pick at your performance constantly - If you get a low rating on your review you can't get overtime - It gets really quiet at around 5:30pm and if there are no bigs jobs to do it can be really boring with nothing to do - Training was very poor and given to me very late, I never got training on furniture orders even though I worked on home for nearly 7 months - When I first started I was given overtime without being asked or told, I regularly had 30 hour weeks on a 16 hour contract and couldn't give up unwanted shifts - Sales start ridiculously early - unnecessary and tiring - Quite a few products come in faulty and poor quality but are never sent back they're just put out until a customer buys it and returns it or complains

Pros

Some of the staff that work at next are absolutely lovely people 25% Employee card Really nice customers Good if you want to stand around all night not doing anything. And I mean, doing nothing because EVERYTHING has already been done. (mainly happens between 7PM-8PM).

Cons

Management is absolutely awful. The managers will be super super patronising towards you Opens until 8pm, so boring when no customers shop at that time anyway (especially Saturday!!) They'll get rid of you as fast as you can if they're doing badly money wise. Crap overplayed music. sales opens super early on boxing day - what even is the point. If you're new, you're expected to know exactly what to do without guidance from management or teamleaders. They use you and abuse use. They lie about clothing allowance - states in the contract that you're entitled a clothing allowance - in my experience of working there I was promised a clothing allowance but "the system messed up" although, longer working employees did get their clothing allowance. Makes no sense. A week later they told me that they couldn't keep me on due to them thinking "there would be no customers" nonsense. Management will not do what it states you're entitled to on the contract you're given. You wont get entitled contracted hours, you will get significantly less or significantly more - resulting in uncontracted days in which you have to work - no excuses. - A fault on managements end. Next rarely pick up the office phone - meaning that if you're sick or unwell you'll be stuck on the phone trying to get through for up to an hour and before you know it, it's 10:01 and you're in trouble which can result in disciplinary.
