Pros

I've worked at Motorola my entire career. Which I would not have done if it were not an ethical, solid company. Strong backlog, reliable customer base. Like any company, there are times of disruption, reorgs and acquisitions and divestitures. Times of expansion and contraction. People come and go. Leaders come and go. But the core of the company, and the culture that was put in place by the founders son Bob Galvin remains. You can be proud of the work you do here. The products make a difference in people's lives. Salary structure is on the low side of fair, but the PTO policy is outstanding. Flexible and generous.

Cons

It's smaller than it used to be, but it's still a big, global public corporation. It can move slowly, and has rules and requirements and processes to follow. All for good reason, but that frustrates some who are used to small companies, or working for themselves. Your career development is largely your responsibility.

Learn to value employees

Pros

With a lot of locations and positions, there are a lot of opportunities for growth. Overall benefits are decent. The work we do is rewarding. This isn't just another job, we are actually benefiting our communities.

Cons

As with most big corporations, it seems like the bottom line is valued over employees. Even though multiple locations can be a positive, in some ways it is negative. It is really hard to feel like part of the team. A lot of the time names are just thrown around that you have never worked with. It is hard to feel like we are all working together. Sometimes decisions that come down don't seem like they were well thought out. I'm sure there was time spent talking about them, but it leaves us scratching our heads sometimes. So, the goals aren't always obvious and management isn't good about helping us see the vision of them. Sure, there is always some email accompanying the changes, but it is pretty much left at that, no real way to ask meaningful questions and understand what is really going on.

Pros

Very knowledgeable staff. They coded to the highest Microsoft coding standards of any team I've ever worked on in the Seattle area. They work with leading edge technology. Most people were very friendly. Pay was market rate. Mr. Lamprecht was "Class A": Gentleman and Professional. Very thoughtful and intelligent as well.

Cons

Lots of attitudes there. Some people acted like they were the smartest and most professional people on the planet. Revolving door there at the time. More than 5 people I worked with there left the company within a year of me leaving. 3 other employees quit while I was working there. There were only about 30 people working there. Mr. Clack was a world class a-hole and was the major problem for Development teams
