      Pros

      The Pros are all historical. Worked with some of the most talented Engineers in the world. Gained a wealth of experience. Pay was good, time off and ability to set your own schedule was phenomenal. Retirement benefits used to be top-notch. We were a family. Being a Motorolan was a badge of honor as an Engineer.

      Cons

      Our "visionary" CEO is trying to turn one of the greatest American communications hardware companies into a software and services company. Extremely sad to watch what used to be a legendary brand slowly split up, sold off, shut down, and forced to be something it is not by the Board of Directors, activist investors, and Wall Street. Innovation here is dead.

      Pros

      I get to work with some top notch people, creating great products that hopefully make a difference in the world. Decent benefits Flexible work environment - can work from home.

      Cons

      They laid off my manager and the second most senior person on my team simply because they were "expensive". My manager is an incredibly hard worker that is great at her job with over 15 years of experience, but they decided they could no longer afford to keep her and the other person on our team. The recent "business decisions" management has been making really suck, and I have a feeling there will be blowback from our customers when the products suffer.

      Excellent work-life balance, small shop feel, free food

      Pros

      Very motivated, inspiring coworkers. Devs have good control over what they work on, provided it brings value to the business. Stepping out of your comfort zone is encouraged. Management is older, have families, so work-life balance is much better than some other software shops. Gorgeous views of the sound.

      Cons

      Ever since the MSI acquisition there has been a lot of red tape to navigate. Small shop feel is in jeopardy with corporate control. Ten years of legacy code that hasn't been adequately maintained. Business pushed half-cocked agile methodology on dev, resulting in unhappy old-timers and inconsistent, ineffective process. Not a lot of upward mobility.
