Pros

Flexible hours, managers were typically understanding of your need to take off some days, willing to let you take leaves of absences when need be

Cons

Very intense during holiday season, management isn't very effective, store policies are often hard to explain to customers and leave you in poor situations, theft in stores is out of control

Pros

I've been working at Modell's for about a year now. Why I like the job: 1. Flexible Hours: I go to college so this is important to me. They will let you change your availability whenever you need to, and if you need to call out, you only need to do it one hour before your shift starts. 2. Promote from Inside Only after 9-10 months of working here I was promoted to Head Cashier. Demonstrate that you're an employee who doesn't just show up to work, but tries hard to meet store goals, and you will be recognized. 3. Some opportunities for bonuses If you catch a shoplifter (a customer or associate) and you do well with add-ons/donation contests you will be getting some extra money in addition to your salary. 4. Fun work environment This may be subjective, but I have fun working here. This will depend on your own attitude toward working. I know next to nothing about sports but that has only added to the challenge.

Cons

Here's some problems you should consider: 1. Low pay This can change over time with promotions, but still, not the best pay around. 2. Managers I've had some great managers, and some who were not so great. You will have to learn how to deal with the crappy ones. 3. Store lacks items that customers need It's frustrating when people want more XXL items and all we have is small, and other sports related items we ought to have. Seems like there are some serious problems with distribution.
