Pros

The best part of Metlife's Customer Response Centers are the benefits and my fellow co workers. We are told we cannot get a union or we will be fired. We do have excellent healthcare but very expensive for the employees. Metlife does give an annual bonus which comes in March and is very welcome. Metlife also offers virtual home agents but you have to be on call all the time the company is open. They do offer flex scheduling where you make up time if you need to go to a doctor's appoitment.

Cons

We are currently outsourcing our customer service to Costa Rica and we are forced to train the people who we believe will eventually take our jobs. Metlife changes our job duties and adds more work to make it impossible to get bonsues and extra points. They are very very strict on attendance. We only get 3 sick days per year where other companies in the Dayton Ohio area give 6 to 7 a year. We also opened a Global processing center in India and now all mail and corrospondence is sent over seas without the knowledge of our policy holders. They did offer identity resolution services to the policy holders if some how your identitity were to be stolen say by someone in India. The supervisors are always stressed and never ever have time to talk to the employees. To sum it up it is very disfunctional family in the customer response center in Dayton Ohio

Pros

The location in Tampa Florida is a very nice campus. It is a fairly new facility with decent amenities such as a fitness center (fee required), an onsite cafeteria (mediocre), and very nice views of the local wildlife (it is on a wildlife preserve). As an employee in my current position, I am given a lot of freedom to plan my daily activities.

Cons

Everything I do is checked, rechecked, and triple checked. From the letters I write, to the payments I make. It sometimes feels like I’m in 8th grade English all over again. You are only allowed to have 3 unplanned absences a year. (even though you get over 15 PTO days) So please be sure to not get sick or have any emergencies as you will be written up. We had through the roof profits the last several years yet we still have to pay for the onsite fitness center.

Pros

This is an industry that promotes social/drinking as team building events and MetLife is no different. It is a great atmosphere for younger employees. There was a considerable amount of manager turnover and I had 2 wonderful managers that listened and pushed back when decisions would have negative impacts on their employees or the business.

Cons

Somewhat inflexible schedule despite being a salaried position. They have not replaced employees for years and have made several blunderous business decisions specific to underwriting structure and have lost most seasoned underwriters. The service department had a similar issue when it was moved to Florida and very few employees understand how to use the extremely large number of programs required to accurately input client data. Underwriters are overworked and information is input incorrectly by supporting departments, specifically service and billing, requiring additional work. Exit interviews are not generally performed, so issues are never introduced above manager level. Managers are often promoted with no management experience. Many managers here have had no other jobs. This makes teamwork exceptionally difficult when multiple managers have such little employment/life experience and cannot see outside of their own experiences. Managers are also not expected to assist in completing cases during peak seasons. This creates a lot of resentment from their team when the employees are required to work extended hours to commplish this. Senior management is never involved and never seen on the underwriting floor. The onboarding is terrible and the continuing education is nonexistant.
