Pros

Schering-Plough encourages Work-Life balance. It offers benefits that are better than average. Eligible employees also get an annual bonus, which is much better than average - the last 3 years it has been almost double than expected! This annual bonus will probably diminish in the years to come since Schering-Plough is now struggling. Schering-Plough also has a pention plan in addition to a 401(k); the pention plan is standard unlike in many other companies. With Schering-Plough's purchase of Organon (a European company) there are lots of opportunities to learn US and EU regulations. Also, Schering-Plough is working hard to figure out how to work more efficiently, which allows employees to learn risk-based and Quality by design processes.

Cons

Career growth is almost nonexistent. Higher-level positions are usually filled by people from other companies - not by promoting internal SME's. Ever-ongoing re-organizations.

Pros

The compensation is very good and so are the benefits. One of the only companies that still has a fully funded pension plan. There are a lot of smart, caring people working at Merck . In the past, there have been good opportunites for advancement and opportunities to learn many different job functions.

Cons

The company has changed very much in the past few years. People do not feel valued and morale is at an all time low. Changes are occuring too often and the changes don't always make sense to the "worker bees". Senior leadership continues to be extremely well compensated (in the millions of dollars) and the regular employees are being asked to cut what is already a bare bones operation.
