Pros

It is a large company so very anonymous. You can get by here in a Wally-like" way and not be noticed for years if you do a minimum of work.

Cons

Management elevated by the Peter Principle. They promote good workers who have no management skills rather than hire or create/train managers. Two faced management. They project that they are ethical and give us nothing but ethics/compliance training, yet lie about their clinical trials. They cut or force out good people to increase shareholder value. This is an awful place to work. Everyone who was knowledgeable from Organon has left.

Pros

Relationships with customers, health insurance, 401K match and company car.

Cons

Schering-Plough is at the low end of the pay scale for pharmaceutical sales. Sales managers are abusive and harrassing and HR supports them. Goals are unrealistic and therefore bonus potential is minimal.

Pros

This is not a "drinking the cool aid" review. Having spent 15+ years at Merck, I've experienced both prosperous and challenging times. Despite the negative press Merck has received in recent years, it remains an excellent place to work. Historically, Merck has been stuck in the way we've always done business. Based on the current challenges we face, significant opportunities exist for those who want to help reshape how Merck will return to be a competitive player in the pharmaceutical sector. Despite downsizing, excellent advancement opportunities are available. Compensation and benefits continue to be better than most other large enterprises.

Cons

challenging business environment, many resistent to culture change, divisional silos
