Merck is a solid company that provides many different potential career paths / areas to learn about - with global operations and research in small molecule pharmaceuticals to vaccines to biotech research. Coworkers are capable, hard working, dependable and have a high level of integrity - so you can count on things getting done, and getting done right.

Cons

As is common throughout the industry, cost-cutting and reorganization is placing stress on everyone and increasing workloads.

Pros

Flextime. Pretty good benefits and up until recently, after restructuring, there was good career development opportunities

Cons

Bad press coverage over several product (fair and unfair) have brought the company to its knees, in my opinion. financially, it is still sound but the entire culture has changed as a result. It was rough going under the economic climate already but the fallout from Vioxx and other product-related problems have really hurt the brand which has just made things worse.
