Pros

Benefits, Salary, and work life balance are (mostly) good. People want to help each other succeed and work together well.

Cons

Unnecessary admin work due to conflicting priorities. This stems (partially) from being a highly matrixed organization.

Pros

Stable career and you do move up and get recognized if you do a good job. You can make a whole career in multiple departments at Merck.

Cons

Can be political if you want to move up fast... sometimes it's who you're friends with more so than your output, but that's normal for corporate America. Lots of red tape for decisions.
