after acquiring scheirng plough it is the second largest pharma company now and so that has been sold as an exciting reason to expect growth within the company

Cons

cant get recognized in IT delivery services side of the company. promotions are rare and do not seem encouraged. it is a thankless job.

Pros

Merck was about the patient and about the science. They were absolutely ethical for a long time. They provided generous benefits packages and relocation packages.

Cons

The joint venture with SP made the ethical waters muddy. It's a huge company with a huge company feel: disconnected.

Pros

Excellent and rapid feedback. Managers contribute to solving problems, particularly with their access to higher levels of approval or management. Very accommodating to personal needs.

Cons

Most IT work outsourced to India. Requirements gathering, and some architecture, for all large projects done in-house, but then engineering and actual development outsourced. Very cumbersome process for getting anything done by corporate IT. Many departments hire their own IT people, but under misleading titles, to get smaller projects done in-house. Most remaining engineering and coding done by on-site contractors.
