Pros

Your people manager is fun to work with - typically same personality and upbeat like you as a seller.

Cons

Horrible internal bullying.... If you are not the typical ones that have been there in the Houston office for 8+ years together, good luck - They will make it miserable for you. I wish clients/prospects would view these negative reviews prior to choosing a broker.... This team of "leaders" treats their own employees this way but preaches employee health and well-being to clients, just does not add up. I highly advise you look elsewhere if you think about coming to Mercer... You will save yourself one stressful year with a full INCOMPETENT team.

Pros

As a subsidiary of Marsh McLennan, you have the opportunity to grow a long career across the operating companies through savvy networking and exposure. There's a an emphasis on just-in-time learning, informally and formally through on-demand video training and townhalls, etc.

Cons

There is a lot of 'who-you-know' as the basis for opportunities, thus a lot of subjectivity on who gets promoted and why. You will need sponsors and advocates to get ahead. There's an overemphasis on credentials as a proxy for performance, and a lot of too-many-bosses-and-not-enough-workers in certain divisions; also the phenomenon of the company performing well financially, but raises being paltry. Certain divisions/practices are insular and act like they're a company unto themselves.

Pros

Supportive buddy at the beginning of my time with this company.

Cons

After passing probation, there is no assistance available as everyone in the team is too busy. Upper management are awful and place unrealistic expectations that we can't meet in a way to not pay bonuses. There are too many super plans and the PDF's are not clear in the difference between them. The Quality expectations are the strictest I have ever seen as a consultant.
