Pros

The senior members of the team are very nice and willing to work/teach junior staff. Overall a pleasant work environment. Company has a "promote from within" policy; easy to stay with Mercer for your entire career if you want steady work and average pay. Senior management is competent and I have confidence in their abilities.

Cons

Pay is awful. Expect to work long hours and make significantly less than your peers. Vacation policy is terrible. Expect 2 weeks of vacation for the first 2-3 years at Mercer (junior staff) while you are expected to work late in the night many times during the year. Not a place one goes to make significant compensation.

Pros

Great talent, decent pay, interesting work. Employees are expected to cover quite a bit of ground on projects. Junior employees are treated fairly decently by managers considering the industry. Opportunity to work on some interesting projects early and often. Very good exposure to clients.

Cons

Senior management does not always stand by employees. Long work hours, significant pressure on billable hours.

Pros

* opportunity to meet with senior executives from a variety of firms and/or industries * young workforce, very social * pay for educational costs

Cons

* lack of knowledge transfer * lack of clear channels/career paths for top 10% (the firm ranks each employee) * poor recruiting practices - seems a pulse is all it takes at times * poor leadership from the c-suite to front-line managers * bureaucratic * political * cost-focused service firm - budgets for discretionary expenses (business lunches, conferences) are minimal, almost non-existant * lots of arrogant, pompous consultants
