Pros

Not many! Weekly paychecks, flexible scheduling (if you're a favorite), 15 min and lunch breaks but you could work a 6 hour and 45 min shift and have to take a lunch so you don't go over your 6 hour mark instead of just sending you home AT 6 hours.

Cons

Man oh man, where to begin? I got irritated when I first started at Marshall's because a lot of the older employees (in seniority) would slack off and take their sweet time, after about a year, you realize why. Management is an absolute joke, some managers are even low enough to shop throughout their shift, while you bust your tookus running around like crazy doing everyone's job. They push those stupid TJX credit cards on you to sell for a whopping candy bar or some other insulting "prize" knowing they do make commission off your application - customers don't want their credit card, the interest rate is pretty high, and they get irritated with the desperation for new applicants. Customers can be incredibly rude and sneaky, but I suppose when you never enforce any rules or policies, they feel entitled to everything, on that note, I certainly never appreciated explaining why someone couldn't return something for a very justifiable reason that is clearly written on their receipt and on giant signs around the store to have a manager tell me to "go ahead and return it" and look like a complete idiot, with a smirk on said customer's face. There is no room for advancement, and any time they mention open positions, it's all some big scheme to make you do a workload of 3 people for very little pay. I can't believe how hard they slave drive the older employees either, it's unbelievable! Raises are a slap in the face, and even getting promoted is an insult, with a meager .50 for a higher title with even more unmanageable amounts of work. There was a policy they were practicing where you could bring in as many items as you want to the fitting room, which made everyone's job a million times more difficult, there was too much traffic in the fitting room due to having to count and recount 40 some, 60 some items, more theft, more go backs on top of truck AND running back and forth from being called to a register and/or price checks, all while getting yelled at for "not getting anything done". And if you think management will help you with go backs, they won't, only because they feel as though they're "too good" for that. Also, if you're gonna brag about how much your store or company makes, you might wanna either pay more or at least open up more payroll and have enough people to actually get the job done.

Pros

We receive weekly paychecks. Working with a group of associates, most of the associates that genuinely care about the store. Our store has a great management team.

Cons

1. terrible discount program for associates. 2. Management is overworked, very long hours.3. Favortism in promotion is played by DM. 4. All associates are not held accountable due to the fact of management being scared to counsel due to lack of support by DM and HR. Scared of loosing our jobs.5.Not a very good benefits package, rather expensive, compared to major retailers. 6. Open job listings in other stores, or new stores, not posted- so only the favorites get promoted. You do not even know that there was a job opening until you hear from someone they got promoted!

Pros

Stores are located everywhere, so it's great if you need to relocate. Once you are employed full-time for 2 years you get 3 weeks vacation!

Cons

Senior management has lack of knowledge and training. Long lasting employees with this company but majority have never worked for any other company. So, they are not willing to listen to new suggestions to improve company standards. Seems to have serious disconnect between stores, DM, and Corporate leaders. The hours you will end up working does not leave any time for family or a personal life. Expect to work about 55hrs a week an during holiday season 65! At the end of the day...it doesn't pay!
