Fantastic company, but the timeshare industry is cutthroat and has a questionable future, especially with Millennials
Pros
4-day work week with full-time status being 32 hours Benefits are incredible - health insurance, 401k with match, personal, sick, and vacation hours accumulated over the year. You also get great discounts at Marriott properties. Workplace culture is phenomenal. Friendships made will last a lifetime If you're good at your job, you have the potential to make some good money (50k+) while working less than 40 hours Management and leaders work hard for the betterment of the team Lots of opportunity for growth and movement within the company Working in paradise! You are provided with leads to call every week with the leads being on a powerline. The benefit is that the better you do in comparison to your peers, the more leads you get!
Cons
Working every Saturday and Sunday and working most nights until 8:00. No flexibility. Base "salary" is right above minimum wage - if you don't hit your quota or don't hit bonus bars, you won't make enough money to live without taking on a second or third job. Your job is to call and pitch a timeshare presentation. While you're not technically cold calling, this is still telemarketing. People know why you're calling because Marriott has been doing this for years, which means a lot of hangups or no answers. The industry is extremely tough to work in. People (especially millennials) just don't want to go on timeshare presentations anymore, especially after having a bad experience with a high-pressure salesperson, being lied to by a previous marketing person, or just having an overall bad perception of the industry. We were told that marketing tours and sales volume in our department have declined year over year over year COMPANY WIDE. It's not hard to see where that trend is going. Seems to me like the ship is slowly sinking.
