Where to begin with Marken? The way this company operates is sloppy at best and downright unethical at worst. The Home Healthcare Department is a ticking time bomb. Despite the fact that the department is clearly nosediving and has been for at least a year, upper management blatantly lies to their employees, insisting that there is money and business "coming down the pipeline." Always "coming down the pipeline." The pipeline is so long and treacherous in fact that these so called new awards/projects never seem to come about. Upper management insults the intelligence of their employees. Recently a group of home healthcare employees were laid off (the vast majority Hispanics and Blacks), all under false pretenses. Some employees were "fired" due to alleged "performance issues," even though they had never previously had any discussion of negative performance with their managers; they had never received any sort of warning; they had never been placed in a Performance Improvement Plan, and what's more, some hadn't even had one on one meetings with their managers in months! Other employees were "fired" due to made up reasons, such as so called company policy violations which the company never specified, and minor mistakes on the job which should have warranted a discussion with the employees and a warning at most - not being discarded by the company like pieces of trash in a matter of minutes, after years of dedicated service. They are currently finding any excuse to "fire" employees because, plain and simple, they have no money. Then they are turning around and telling their staff that the terminations are the fault of those who were terminated due to "performance," denigrating the names of those who were let go. They will not admit to their employees that they are reducing their workforce. Make no mistake - if you work for Marken, this is what you can expect: They will squeeze you dry; they will take from you and give nothing in return; then they will dispose of you like trash whenever it's convenient for them. They will also take zero interest in your professional growth or satisfaction, let alone your health, mental or otherwise. If you work for home healthcare especially, all of your discussions with your management will be regarding how to put out some sort of Marken fire. You will be so busy trying to put out the fires and deal with the constant issues, that you will have no time or energy to discuss your career growth with your management, and they do not care. Furthermore, you will receive no practical on the job training. They will toss you into the fire and expect you to figure it all out on your own, with broken little pieces and parts of guidance that you basically have to beg for. They will constantly bombard you with reading pages upon pages upon pages of fastidious policy documents and taking little quizzes that have very little to nothing to do with your actual job. You will have to chase exhaustingly for a single answer from multiple people as you learn. In fact, most of your time will be dedicated to chasing for answers and clarifications on processes that Marken has not clearly established and never will. You will get conflicting feedback, you will be given the run-around endlessly, and your management will always be too busy to really support you or anyone else; then they will turn around and "encourage" you through their teeth to "reach out for help" and "escalate issues." If and when you escalate an issue about an existing process or lack thereof, rest assured that NOTHING will ultimately be done. You may jump into a few meetings that resolve nothing, and then, if you are a project manager, you WILL be left holding the bag in front of the client. You will be forced to BS your way through explaining why issues keep happening over and over, and you will be utterly embarrassed and constantly anxious to represent Marken. As a project manager, upper management will talk circles around you, putting it all on you, leaving it all up to you, constantly handing you "urgent" busy-work tasks as they try to collect their endless metrics and justify appearances, while you're trying to deal with the actual project demands and customers. The client/program managers will be incompetent and apathetic, and they will have no real sense of the project management role and basically just exist, providing no tangible support or guidance. But what's most appalling about Marken is the way in which they normalize the hell out of everything they do and all the ways in which they fail. They act as if their toxic, non supportive, non transparent work environment is absolutely normal and fruitful and successful. It is absolutely mind boggling. They treat their employees like disposable chess pieces, lying to them, tossing them out at the drop of a hat, and moving them around departments according to what suits the company, with no regard for the employee's wishes or goals. They are the masters of slapping makeup on pigs and leading their clients on, making them believe over and over that their projects and vital patient shipments are in capable hands, that the recurring issues are being addressed, when in fact, the truth is far different. Then they wonder why they are so desperate for money, and why they are losing business. This is a hostile, extremely stressful, exploitative, appalling company. Save your energy, your mental health, and invest into one of the myriad of companies out there who actually care about clinical research.
