      Pros

      Large company with overall very good benefits and stability

      Cons

      Life at Merck depends all on line manager and group. Overall, it has dramatically declined within a short time. Pembrolizumab is approaching the end of its life cycle and no real successor molecule is in sight, so the pressure is increasing. Merck has also become excessively woke, with promotions being largely driven by DEI and qualification no longer seems to matter.

      High tolerance for poor management behaviours

      Pros

      Good pay, company doing really well and good bonus - good scientists. Some really great inspiring leaders and colleagues.

      Cons

      Old school. Surprisingly tolerant of bully behavior even if it is only practiced by a powerful minority. Dominated by US based people - you in general need to be in America if you want to do well, or else make sure that you have a powerful US based sponsor . Do not genuinely value inclusive leadership - these leaders often seem to leave in frustration or get fired without announcement. Do not value further training, the only thing that counts is internal experience and network, and operationally means they don’t learn from others. A significant cohort of worthy people seem to either leave of their own accord or get pushed out.
