Pros

Overall, if I had to do grad school again, even with all the hardship, I wouild still do it at MIT. Things improved a lot while I was there. Brand new instrument facility, unionization, etc. The department and students within the department do at least try to improve the lives of their students, which is more than many other grad schools. Though of course things still come down to individual professors.

Cons

Academia is still just generally awful, and tenured professors are still mostly left unchecked in regards to mismanagement of their students and are immune to any consequences. But at least they instituted a fund to support students during the transitionary period if they wanted to find a new advisor.
