Pros

High level colleagues, prestigious, impressive infrastructural support. If you've got the talent, then the sky is the limit. Some commuter perks help reduce costs (small $).

Cons

This varies from individual department and boss, but MIT is not the most nurturing environment. People expect you to work all the time, and it is a high stress place.

Pros

MIT has a fantastic work environment and the best academic environment anywhere in the world. Highly recommended for a postdoc or a professorship.

Cons

The postdocs here don't have the same sorts of rights that they do elsewhere. A few that come to mind: gym membership costs are the same as staff rather than students, so $500/yr; the salary is a little low; and we have no consulting rights and the IP policy is definitely skewed in MIT's favor.
