Pros

A great place to start a research career. A stimulating research environment (of course), brilliant and kind colleagues, good benefits, and a decent salary for a postdoc. In hindsight, although I worked myself to the bone, nobody was monitoring my hours and so I could have had great work-life balance if I'd wanted.

Cons

My PIs were so in-demand/overburdened that I didn't get nearly as much 1:1 mentorship as I would have liked. I was also the only full-time researcher on my project, so the work was lonely at times. I'm guessing that is a common experience.
