Pros

some of my fellow employees were nice, willing to teach and help you out when needed. Majority of management was easy to work with

Cons

Hours go from great to almost none in record time. I was a seasonal garden associate with over 2 years of retail experience. Was told to start applying right away for permanent positions. The positions they did post they had already decided who they were giving the jobs to, and some of them were the laziest people in the store. They have a 3 interview rule and used seasonal associates as two of the three interviews so they could give positions to their buddies faster.

Pros

Good pay for Retail, Good vacation benefits, Decent 401k performance match. Employee discount was good but they are killing it AUG 21.

Cons

Lowe's killed its commission program at the beginning of the year, The computer system is horrible. The company has no interest in rewarding good employees or retaining good sales people. Its retail so the schedule is not very good for people with families but thats not exclusive to lowes. The company is trying to be an online retailer, this means they are lowering stock levels in stores. We have to tell customers their replacement fridge will take 5+ days to get. This setup did not work for Service Merchandise. Lowes wasted a fortune buying I-phones for every store in the company, weve had them for over a year and they barely work ( slow apps, horrible call quality). After we purchased the iphones we started a partnership with Microsoft for our IT upgrades. What a waste, im sure Microsoft would have made us a better deal on phone tech.

Pros

Per hour, there won't be many retail locations that will pay you more. That is honestly the only positive left with this company. If you value a little more money over getting enjoyment our of your work, this is the company for you.

Cons

Like the title says, the company is solely focused on improving the value of its stock. SPIFFs and commissions were taken away from the sales force, essentially demotivating anyone hired on with the expectation of making more than an hourly wage. Management is too concerned with everything from pushing speciality sales down our throats to punishing employees for petty slip ups (forgetting to empty a trash can) that they have become blind to the fact that simply no one cares about their jobs anymore. My only reason to perform better than my coworkers is to keep my job until my solid sales figures land me a position with another company. There is a certain level of uncertainty when coming to work each day; what am I going to be in trouble for today? If your plan is to move up in the company, enter Lowe's as high up as you can. In the last year alone, five positions in our store were filled by internal applicants whose previous positions were abandoned to save on payroll. Sales Specialists and other associates have lost thousands of dollars this year with the elimination of SPIFFs and commissions. Personally, I took a $10,000 hit compared to what I made last year. That figure would be $20,000 if Lowe's didn't offer an "allowance" totaling 50% of SPIFFs and commissions made in 2011. It's only a matter of time before the allowance also disappears.
