Nice working environment, inefficient, bureaucratic

Pros

Nice environment, flexible working, interesting projects, good pension. Most engineers will enjoy it. Managers - depends what sort of organisational structure you enjoy managing in.

Cons

Stifling bureaucracy, inefficient. Excessive work is wasted on management reporting, estimating and planning to the nth degree. Target of zero time booked to overheads, so that people end up booking 'waiting time' (an overhead, due to low workload) to projects - the result is under-utilisation and inefficiencies are hidden and all looks good on paper.

Pros

Great atmosphere generally speaking. There are lots of company benefits. The flexible work time is great. There are lots of different projects to be involved with.

Cons

The salaries tend to be a little under what other companies offer for equal roles.

Good place to start, poor place to stay

Pros

Flexi time and leave. Good apprenticeship and graduate schemes. Good local management.

Cons

Progression is nearly impossible. It is not unusual to find people who have waited over ten years for an upgrade. There is a serious lack of investment which is noticeable in the staff, the IT equipment and the buildings in general. Salaries are below local average and do not compare to other local similar companies. Retention is poor. A heavy recruitment of graduates results in the middle people having to train people more while their workload increases as people leave. Once off the graduate and apprentice schemes, progression stops. Few training opportunities.
