Pros

Good staff discount - though the items are always excessively over priced. Always something to do - each day is different. As a part time job - under 20 hours can be quite good, for a full-time job you just are not paid enough.

Cons

When it is quiet it can be quite boring and the day will drag. Management spends all their time in the office - even when it is busy; they do not like to be on the shop floor at all. Expected to cover your own and other local stores at a minutes notice. Expected to do jobs above your position with little-no training and definitely no thank-yous. Unrealistic sales and MasterCard targets. Never any chance of a pay rise - you are kept on the minimum/living wage. I worked for Laura Ashley for nearly 6 years and started off doing part time which was fine, for the past 3 years of working full time I have been expected to do the job of the Assistant Manager and at times the STORE MANAGER with no thank-you or support from the Regional Manager. Then ended up being offered a management position which I turned down to the little pay and being over 30 miles away from my base store. Then when the same job came up in my store I was not allowed to take it as I had already turned down the position even though this was 30miles away. I was expected to do the job until they could employ someone to fill that vacancy - 6 months later and they still hadn't filled it. Just a shoddy company to work for - AVOID.

Pros

In some stores nice staff members A lot of support from AM

Cons

Awful quality products Staff members can be cruel and just expect you to turn back to talk and gossip about you, especially among store managers No discount on promotions, sometimes promotions are better for customers than staff members Extremely old IT, my computer in the office still required floppy disc Company saving on everything, so do not expect any improvements Ridiculous uniform allowance, as you must wear their clothes, either pay a lot from your own money every month or live with one set as the clothes usually do not survive the first wash anyway.

Pros

Discount was good and had the opportunity for over time Was able to do a training course with First 4 Skills which came to me through LA

Cons

My store management wasn't much good, didn't help out a lot when i wanted a bit more support for training Lots to learn, especially home . Pay was absolute rubbish when i started. It began at £3.75 and when i was 18 went to £6.50 . You can do a lot better else where. Clothing to choose from with uniform isn't much good. Some of the collections are so old fashion !!
