Pros

Easy way to get into healthcare if you have little to no experience

Cons

Low pay, long and taxing hours, no control over your schedule, poor work / life balance, demanding management and patients, breaks are not respected by the company, you are expected to be working and moving constantly and are not allowed to take the 15 minute breaks throughout the day that are promised upon hire. It is also nearly impossible to get your shifts covered and management does not respect requests for time off. Burnout is incredibly fast; most of my coworkers and I myself only lasted a few months.

Pros

Flexible work life balance, are willing to train and is great for entry level. Most coworkers are really great to work with. Most of our middle management are hardworking and reliable.

Cons

Upper management does don't come across as sincere and we get inconsistent messages.

A Corporate Office Perspective

Pros

Benefits are decent and are relatively inexpensive. TLC has a generous PTO policy. The corporate office has been working remotely since March 2020, but that may change now that COVID is largely under control.

Cons

TLC has suffered from merging with the rest of The Kroger Co. I really enjoyed working for TLC when we were a relatively small company. I liked all my coworkers and it felt like I was truly making a difference at work. Then, our leaders began moving to Kroger General Office in Cincinnati, and we became known as Kroger Health when we aligned with Retail Pharmacy. Some jobs were eliminated or merged with others, our workloads increased, and some of us became redundant. It got even worse when Kroger Specialty Pharmacy joined us. Most recently, the HR team has been scattered and it's a mess - work isn't being done, no one knows who does what anymore, and several people are doing multiple jobs. I wouldn't be surprised if more jobs or entire departments are eliminated in the future. There is a small group of leaders in Kroger Health who feel like they should control everything. It has resulted in some managers of different areas being overlooked and pushed aside. Often, decisions are made without involving the correct people, resulting in confusion and last-minute changes in plans. The pay is very low for the area, I'm surprised associates stay as long as they do. They could get more money at a different company doing the same thing as they do now. Technology is outdated, and many of our systems are too old to function correctly or not user-friendly enough to work efficiently. Kronos, KnowMe, and Citrix are all good examples of technology that needs to be updated. TLC corporate associates don't have many advancement opportunities unless they are willing to take on a role with Kroger General Office in Cincinnati. Remote jobs have been possible because of COVID, but this may change now that Kroger General Office is going back to the office. Field associates, especially PCTs, are given too much to do for too little pay. They are expected to learn new processes at the last minute, get patients in and out in very little time, answer emails and the phone all while trying to help our patients. There are many good managers who advocate for them, but more pay or more staff is never in the budget.
