Pros

Competitive Work Environment, the company lives and breaths market based management. This style gives the employee much responsibility and ability to create value

Cons

Old School culture, does not do a great job of being in line with millennials, easy to get burnt out, company expects that you work much longer than 40 hours.

Pros

Koch pipeline will give you incredible opportunities for a new college graduate. Within 2-3 years you will be managing multi million dollar projects. There are a lot of really good people that work at Koch pipeline.

Cons

There are several fundemental problems with working at Koch pipeline. First and foremost there is a toxic office environment that encourages people to talk the cultural talk "MBM mouth breathers" rather then actually accomplish anything. If you can use buzzwords and read any book Charles Koch has written you will move ahead quickly. Unfortunately this means all of management are yes men with little real work experience and are not helpful to you in resolving issues or problems. The turnover rate is horrendous during my time there in a little over three years we went through 13 project managers. It's not uncommon for the most senior project manager to have less then 3 years of work experience. Add that to the fact that being held accountable only works for the project managers; business, accounting, and operations are not held accountable for any changes made during the project process. Pay is less then average for the industry and bonuses based on "marginal contribution" are little to nonexistent. Do not be fooled by the sales pitch that you have unlimited earning potential or your bonus can be as high as the value you create THIS IS NOT TRUE. If you are interested in working for Koch Flint Hills Resources seems to be more stable, pay better and have higher bonuses.

Pros

KPL is a good place to start your career. You are given a decent amount of responsibility right away, and are given a wide variety of opportunities. They give you the opportunity to get some valuable experience. When I started, if you excelled in your role you were given larger opportunities and more responsibility. The majority of the employees were personable and enjoyable to work with. I made some really good friends at this company.

Cons

MBM is used as a crutch in the Southern Operating Group. Management has placed so much emphasis on MBM that employees feel in order to succeed they must be "a MBM champion". This results in employees simply playing a game, where what you say is more important than what you do. Management is not trustworthy. A good amount are in their position due to their use of MBM, not because of their knowledge and results. They claim to be transparent and open, but employees can see through most of the facade. As an employee, I always felt my supervisor would rather save face than back me on an issue. There is an inner circle of management in the SOG that creates a conflict of interest which everyone is aware of, but few people feel can be addressed. 360 reviews occasionally give good feedback that can help you improve. Most of the time, it's just a list of everything you've done wrong. The turnover rate at KPL in the SOG is alarmingly high. During my employment, the engineering and construction group had close to 70% turnover in 3 years. This should be a giant red flag to management in Wichita that there is a leadership problem. There is no work/life balance. KPL doesn't seem to care about employee morale. The only events outside of work are combined with FHR. No team building, no social events, etc. Perfect example - In order to get a Koch Pipeline hat, you had to lead an MBM discussion. Shirts weren't given out unless you participated in certain events. Not receiving free items is not the issue, the issue is there is no example of appreciating employees.
