Pros

The company has a real chance to make customers happy. Being an option other than Walmart is a plus for most people. COULD be a fun place to work.....maybe. I know it used to be before the whole Sears thing....

Cons

4 department leads in one store does not make for a happy shopping experience for customers. It means you have employees that don't have any knowledge about specific products in the store and usually means associates have no idea where merchandise is located. I understand times are hard, but do executives in the company actually expect customers to find things in the store on their own? What is with the constant insistance that cashiers ask for Sears credit cards? Many customers gets upset with the constant barrage of questions. "May I put this on your Sears Card?" "Did you know Kmart offers a one year replacement on this toaster?" "Would you like to Donate to the March of Dimes?" "Would you like to recieve $10 in coupons through your email address?" Most customers do not appreciate four of these questions if they are just trying to buy a coffee maker or bottle of shampoo? Would you? I usually just want to buy my things and get going. Moral in the stores is low. It's been that way for years.

Pros

I understand that there are those who woud disagree with my following comments, however, please understand that I work in a KMart store that goes against your typical KMart store grain. We have an outstanding management team, not without their problems, but they work quite together quite well in spite of it. Flexible Scheduling to coordinate with home life is probably their best attribute. Training employees to work in more than one area of the store so that they have enough coverage. A sense of working with a team rather than being on your own. Open door management policy Clean and properly maintained. Emphasis on customer service.

Cons

NO feedback whatsoever on job performance until time for yearly evaluation then you get a shock. No clear and obvious track to moving into management. Miniscule pay raises. Keeping unreliable employees while not doing enough to keep their better employees from moving on. Could try a bit more praise at employee meetings.

Pros

You will be hired very easily if you need work. Probably within one or two weeks of getting called in for an interview. Only think about this job if your young and live at home and your about 16 and saving for a car because it isnt going to get you to far unless you want to spend the rest of your life working through the corporate ranks at kmart and to only find out that this company is so poorly ran that it will probably go out of business within the next year or two.

Cons

horrible pay, raises, no room for advancement
