Pros

Outstanding training program and information to do the job at hand. Flexible scheduling for the most part. Fair benefits. Good hours.

Cons

Associates are not that firendly and place customer service as a last priority. Too many managers are burned out, due to lack of effect operational staffing. Unprofessional behavior across the store at the associate level. The corporate standards and policy are not followed in the same manner, distirct by district.

Pros

There are great people working for this company and trying to move it into the modern era. I am proud to have met and worked with some of the best people of my retail career. The benefits and pay are good.

Cons

There is a constant battle between new and old. It is like watching pro wrestling. Everyone is part of some faction. I guess the 30 year vetrans are the 4 horsemen and the new guys are Degeneration X. No matter how you look at it, it is not a productive way to build a team.

Pros

The Kmart internship allows you to oversee all the aspects of running a store. By the time I was finished with the 3-month internship I had a firm gasp of the different departments and knew how the store ran on a daily basis. In addition, I had an opportunity to fly out to Chicago to visit their headquarters. It was an incredible, all-expense paid trip to speak with top executives at the Sears Holding Corporation and mingle with other interns all around the U.S. Overall I enjoyed being an intern for the summer.

Cons

One of the disadvantages is that I was placed in a primarily all spanish speaking environment and unfortunately I did not speak spanish. In addition, during the entire internship you are required to wear business professional to business casual clothing which is a little overdressed compared to the other Kmart employees and customers.
