Pros
*Laid-back atmosphere *Nice co-workers *Easy place to work *Good job training Kmart is a good place to work if you are a younger individual looking for your first job. They don't give more than 20 hours a week (regardless of what they tell you upon hiring) and they are understanding if you need time off for extracurricular activities. Every position is simple, and for the most part you work unsupervised at your own pace. Most days are slow, so most of the time you work there you will be stocking and organizing shelves.
Cons
*No opportunity for advancement (promotions, but no raises) *No full-time positions are offered *No more than 20 hours a week (cannot support oneself on 20 hours at minimum wage) *Management can be incredibly condescending If you are a high school aged individual looking for some extra cash, this is an ideal place to work. If you are in college or an adult living on your own or with a family, this is not a good place to work. They refuse to allow people to get remotely close to full-time status out of fear of providing people with benefits. "Promotions" are merely additional responsibilities with a new title, but no additional pay. Management will not bother to learn your name because people quit on a regular basis. While they permit taking days off, they will talk to you condescendingly about your need for time off. The "open door" policy is a joke, as again they will talk down to you if you have any issues or concerns. They also change your shifts around and fail to call you to let you know.
